Privacy and analytics

Your game progress

You can play without an email address. Guest saves, sound preferences and your analytics choice stay in this browser. Clearing browser data can remove them. If you register, SHIFT uses your email for sign-in links and stores your progress online. A necessary sign-in cookie keeps your account session active.

Optional analytics

Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity load only after you choose Allow analytics. Declining analytics does not affect playing or saving. Use Analytics settings at the bottom of the page to change your choice. Withdrawing permission stops collection, removes the analytics cookies this site can access and reloads the page. It does not remove data already collected by the providers.

Google Analytics measures visits, referral sources, device and browser information, room visits and selected game actions. These actions help us see whether people start playing, open the board or logbook, choose answers and request another shift. Error reports include a category, without error messages or private details. SHIFT does not send email addresses, account IDs, answer text or game-save contents to analytics. Advertising consent and Google advertising signals are disabled.

We use Microsoft Clarity to see how you use the website, including clicks, heatmaps and masked session replays, to improve the game. Clarity masks page text and form input. It does not reproduce the game's canvas artwork as a video. Tracking is skipped on sign-in links and other sensitive URLs. Clarity is also skipped on pages entered with query parameters or fragments.

These services process usage data on their own systems, potentially outside your country. See Google's privacy policy and Microsoft's privacy statement for their data practices and privacy controls.

Hosting and search

Cloudflare hosts SHIFT and processes network requests and operational logs to deliver and protect the site. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools report how public pages appear in search. They do not require a tracking script on your device.
